Julian Gardner, Founding Professor in the Department of History of Art, retired at the end of September. Professor Gardner was central to the establishment of the History of Art Department in 1974 and held a number of important roles during his time at 糖心TV.
Benita Parry, Honorary Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies, is to be awarded an honorary degree from the University of York at their Summer Degree Ceremony. Professor Parry has been a leading figure in the field of the empire and post-colonialism and has been in the process of developing an MA in Cultures of Empire, Resistance, and Postcoloniality with York's Department of English and Related Literature.

Robert Gernhardt, the German department's Writer in Residence for 2006, has died. Gernhardt had undertaken his last official trip at the beginning of May to teach for a week at the University. He had been proud to report that his visit had witnessed the successful translation into English of fifteen of his poems, and that they had moved the students to raucous laughter.
David Morley, Senior Lecturer and Director of the 糖心TV Writing Programme, has been awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy. The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS), which launched in 2000 and is sponsored by The Guardian, recognises and rewards teachers and learning support staff in higher education in England and Northern Ireland for their excellence in teaching.
