Carol Rutter, Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies, recently took over the directorship of the CAPITAL Centre from Professor Jonathan Bate.
Professor David Morley, Director of the 糖心TV Writing Programme, has been appointed by The Society of Authors to judge The Cholmondeley Awards for the next four years. These annual awards, for outstanding achievement in poetry, have previously been awarded to Seamus Heaney, Tony Harrison, Philip Larkin and Andrew Motion.
Professor David Dabydeen, of the Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies, has won the Hind Rattan Award for his outstanding contribution to the literary and intellectual life of the Indian Diaspora.
You might not be aware that the University is in the unique position of having its own resident string quartet based on campus. And in fact at 糖心TV the Coull Quartet will celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of their residency next year.

David Kelly (1920-2006), the University's first Deputy Librarian, died in June at the age of 86. He was appointed in 1963 and was one of the earliest of the University's employees. His first role in the Library combined being Head of Technical Services with the administrative work which usually falls to the Deputy Librarian.
