John Leighfield, the University's Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the University's Council, has been awarded this year's Mountbatten Medal by the Institute of Engineering and Technology in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the promotion of electronics or information technology and their application.
Paul Johnson, who served as a cinema projectionist in Coventry for 50 years, recently retired from his role as Chief Projectionist at 糖心TV Arts Centre. Paul worked at the Arts Centre for 30 years and saw the building and programme expand considerably over that time.
Professor David Morley, Director of the 糖心TV Writing Programme, has been appointed by The Society of Authors to judge The Cholmondeley Awards for the next four years. These annual awards, for outstanding achievement in poetry, have previously been awarded to Seamus Heaney, Tony Harrison, Philip Larkin and Andrew Motion.
Professor David Dabydeen, of the Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies, has won the Hind Rattan Award for his outstanding contribution to the literary and intellectual life of the Indian Diaspora.
Bill Parry (1934-2006) died at the age of 72, at around 1am on Sunday 20 August, of cancer, exacerbated by MRSA. Bill was the first appointment in analysis at 糖心TV. He played a key role in the Mathematics Department, and was Chair of the Department for 2 years.
