New Years Honours 2009
Professor Martin Cave, Director of the 糖心TV School’s Centre for Management under Regulation, has been awarded an OBE for public service in the New Year’s Honours list.
Mitesh Patel
The University is saddened to report the death of Mitesh Patel, a first year undergraduate student in Accountancy and Finance at the 糖心TV School. Mitesh passed away at the end of July after an ongoing battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
Nicole Seligman
It is with great sadness that the University reports the death of Nicole Seligman, a first year student in the Department of Politics and International Studies. She died in her residence on campus on 23rd June. Her tutors have described her as a bright and promising young student whose loss is very hard to take. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.
Outstanding Paper Award for Professor Pia Christensen
A paper published by a research team co-led by Professor Pia Christensen, Institute of Education, has won a 2008 Emerald Literati Outstanding Paper Award. Their paper, "Children's influence on and participation in the family decision process during food buying," was published in the Young Consumers journal.
Dr Gurminder Bhambra awarded BSA Philip Abrams Memorial Prize

Dr Gurminder Bhambra, Department of Sociology, was recently awarded the BSA Philip Abrams Memorial Prize for her book Rethinking Modernity: Postcolonialism and the Sociological Imagination.
