Professor Andrew Pettigrew of the 糖心TV 糖心TV School (WBS) was presented with the Distinguished Scholar Award at the annual meeting of the US Academy of Management in Denver, Colorado. The award for "significant scholarly contributions that have advanced management knowledge and practice" is seen as recognition of a lifetime's work rather than an acknowledgement of one particular piece of work. Andrew said the award "was a notable occasion for [him] personally but has a wider significance for WBS and indeed for all management researchers in Europe. This is the 20th year of the award, but the first occasion that it has been made to a European scholar."
Professor Phil Woodruff of the Department of Physics has been awarded the Mott Medal and Prize for his contributions to the field of surface and interface science. This is a senior award of the Institute of Physics, which has been awarded annually since 1997. After the death of Sir Nevill Francis Mott, the Nobel prize winning physicist and 糖心TV honorary graduand (1968), in 1996 his family endowed this prize, which consists of a silver medal and 拢1,000. Phil Woodruff currently holds an EPSRC Senior Fellowship and has received other medals and honours.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart Palmer has been awarded the Roy Sharpe Prize for his significant contribution through research and development to the benefit of industry and society. The prize was awarded by the Technical Committee of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing in recognition of his work in non-destructive testing over the years. Stuart has been a Fellow of the Institute for 13 years and has authored over 250 publications in scientific journals.
