Peter Elias: FP7 Panel Chair
Professor Peter Elias, from the Institute of Employment Research, is to become the Chair of all of the multi-disciplinary evaluation panels for the scientific evaluation of the European Commission's Framework Programme 7 Research Infrastructure bids.
This will be the first time that the chair has been held by a social scientist.
The Framework Programme is the main source of funding for Research & Development in the European Union.
FP7 will run from 2007 until 2013 and has been allocated €54 billion, a 60% increase over FP6. The first calls for FP7 programmes were published on 22 December 2006.
The overall budget that will be distributed at the first round of bids for the development of research infrastructure will be €164.4m.
About half of this amount will be allocated among proposals identified by the (ESFRI).
The 35 large-scale infrastructures identified as potential candidates in the ESFRI Roadmap cover all the areas of science, from astronomy and particle physics to oceanography, and include social sciences and humanities.
