Intergenerational Conversations about International Solidarity
Seeking antiracist and decolonial activists who want to learn from the past, future and present!
We are looking for people who were either active in international solidarity campaigns in the 20thcentury (e.g. anti-apartheid, decolonial work) or are active now (or both) to take part in a project on Intergenerational Conversations about International Solidarity.
You will get a chance to connect with other activists who share similar goals to you, to learn from their experiences and share their own. You will help to make a resource that can also be shared more widely to support antiracist decolonial international solidarity movements, which will also contribute to the ’s planning for future programming. We hope you will enjoy it!
Participating in this project means attending three separate three-hour workshops (with a one hour lunch break) at the People’s History Museum, on the following dates:
Thursday 28th May 11am - 3pm
Thursday 11th June 11am - 3pm
Thursday 18th June 11am - 3pm
At the workshops, we will be bringing together people who were involved in antiracist and decolonial international solidarity activism in the twentieth century, and people involved in such campaigns now. Some people may have links to both!
The workshops will look at what current activism has learned, or could learn, from past struggles – and how previous generations of activists relate to current struggles. We will do this together by:
- Starting conversations between different generations of activists in response to materials about anti-racist and decolonial international solidarity struggles from the People’s History Museum archive
- Collectively making ‘zines’ (home-made magazines) that can be used to share the knowledge from those conversations
After the workshops, the zines will be reproduced in hard copies and online, for sharing more widely.
Some of the ideas might be used in future activities from the People’s History Museum.
The organisers will also use the workshops to consider how this method for sharing knowledge could be used again or improved.
You must be aged 18 or over to take part in this project.
This project is funded by the University of ÌÇÐÄTV Participatory Research Fund and organised by Hannah Jones (University of ÌÇÐÄTV), (Manchester Metropolitan University) and (Lancaster University), with the People’s History Museum.
If you would like to take part, please fill in the simple questions below before 22 April 2026. Please note that we need to ensure that we have a mix of participants across different periods of activism, so filling in this form does not mean you have a confirmed place at the workshop.
We will get back to you by 5th May 2026 to confirm if you have a place, and with further details. Confirmed participants will be able to reclaim travel costs and will receive a gift voucher as a thank you for taking part.
If you have any questions before filling in this form, please email Hannah Jones, University of ÌÇÐÄTV, on h.jones.1@warwick.ac.uk
