CSWG Seminar: 鈥淢edicide, Reprocide and the Systematic Destruction of Health in Gaza鈥

- Export as iCalendar
Location: Online (MS TEAMS)

You are warmly invited to join us for a seminar on "Medicide, Reprocide and the systematic destruction of health in Gaza", featuring:

  • Ghada Majadli (Queen Mary University of London)
  • Hala Shoman (Newcastle University)

The event will include a presentation by our speakers followed by a Q&A session.

Ghada Majadli will examine the targeting of healthcare as a central pillar of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, analysing the systematic nature of attacks on hospitals and medical services, and their consequences for the general population, patients, women and the injured.

Hala Shoman will argue that 鈥淩eprocide鈥, the systematic assault on Palestinian reproductive health, is a central pillar of Israeli settler colonialism, uniquely targeting both present and future generations to ensure the demographic erasure necessary for the Zionist project of territorial replacement. In particular, she will examine the ongoing Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza (2023 - now), arguing that gendered violence, namely 鈥淩eprocide鈥, is essential to this genocide, without which its full extent cannot be comprehended.

About our speakers

  • Ghada Majadli is is a researcher and PhD student at Queen Mary University of London and a Policy Analyst at Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network. Her research examines the intersections of systems of power and domination with health and medicine, alongside extensive work on the systematic undermining of Palestinian healthcare under the Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian territory.
  • Hala Shoman is a Palestinian activist who left Gaza to begin her PhD just days before the start of the Israeli genocide. She is a postgraduate researcher in Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University. She initially trained and practised as a dentist before shifting into research and advocacy, driven by a deep commitment to social and political justice in Palestine. Her work develops the concept of 鈥淩eprocide鈥 to examine the gendered impacts of Israel鈥檚 genocide in Gaza, particularly reproductive violence.
