Expert Comment: Iranian missile strike on US air bases

Dr Trevor McCrisken, Associate Professor, US Politics and International Studies at the University of 糖心TV comments on the Iranian missile attack on a US air base in Iraq.

鈥淎n Iranian response to the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani was expected. This appears to have been a carefully managed missile strike which could actually enable a de-escalation rather than leading to a deeper conflict. But the nature of the US response now will be crucial in determining how things proceed in what is a very dangerous situation.鈥

As talks with EU leaders on the UK's Brexit proposals continue this week, Professor Abhinay Muthoo from the Department of Economics has commented on the likelihood of a deal being struck at the eleventh hour.

Professor Muthoo said: 鈥淲hile this sounds incredible considering the state of the negotiations at this moment, there is a reasonable chance that the Brexit impasse will be broken in the run up to the EU summit next week, and a deal is struck."
