‘Empathy through the lens of clinical neuroscience’
Abstract:
Within the last decade the investigation of emotional competences has become more and more popular in neurosciences mainly due to two reasons: 1) methodological improvements and facilitation of application of neuroimaging tools and 2) the need and the possibility to examine more complex human behaviour, i.e. social behaviour.
Within this talk I want to particularly focus on empathy as a multi-facetted emotional competence. Besides showing data on influencing factors such as gender or sex hormones, findings from behavioural and functional neuroimaging studies in clinical populations will be presented and discussed.
