How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

'Disjunctivism' Reading Group

Every Tuesday, 3:00 - 4:00 pm, in R 3.25.

Description:

The group will convene weekly to read the book 'Disjunctivism' (2016) by Matthew Soteriou. Assessing key questions in the Philosophy of Perception, the book provides a defence of the disjunctivist theory of perception and a discussion of its opposing view, including representationalism and sense-datum theories.

  • Information about the sorts of work philosophy students go on to.
  • Considering how what you are currently doing can contribute to finding work you might enjoy.
  • Suggestions of ways to develop your skills, to help your journey into work  
  • Advantages and disadvantages of further study
  • Assistance available from Student Careers and Skills   

By the end of the workshop you will have:

  • learnt about some popular past options for philosophy students and thought about how these might relate to you, and how to find out more about them.
  • Thought about how the skills you are developing will relate to the world of work, and strategies to adopt if there are skills you want to develop.
  • Thought about how further study can help, and how it can't.
  • Found out more about assistance available from Student Careers and Skills.

Meet Your Alumni - Real life stories from Philosophy graduates

This is an opportunity to listen to and talk with graduates from the past few years who are using their philosophy degree in different ways.

Confirmed speakers so far:

  • Harry Farmer, Policy Development Associate, Civil Aviation Authority
  • Hannah Tookey - freelance theatre and film producer
  • Lily Covington – Junior Strategist, Cruxy & Company. Tech strategy consultancy firm

Also anticipated: Speakers from law, teaching, civil service, journalism. More details as we have them!

After the talks there will be plenty of time to ask questions more informally of all the speakers. The Department of Philosophy is kindly providing refreshments for this event.
