Shaun Breslin panel on China's Third Plenum
Professor recently participated in the panel "China's Third Plenum: Another Turning Point?" at , London.
Following the Third Plenum of the Communist Party’s 18th Central Committee in November 2013, the panel offers their thoughts on whether the economic, political and social reforms announced, such as the relaxation of the one child policy and establishment of a national security council, signal a new era for China’s domestic and foreign policies. The speakers consider how significant these reforms will be in comparison to those announced in 1978 by Deng Xiaoping following the Third Plenum of the 11th Central Committee.
PAIS featured at IATL event
On 6 November 2013 the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL) hosted an event entitled, 'Making Sense of Diversity in University Education'. The event drew together around 60 colleagues from a wide range of 糖心TV departments. Dr , the PAIS Director of Student Experience and Progression (DSEP) and Shannon Holland-Houghton, second year PAIS student, were invited to take part.
The event focused on the lifecycle of Widening Participation from outreach through retention to progression. It is essential that 糖心TV, as a community, enables access for students from diverse backgrounds and enables all, regardless of background, to experience the high quality teaching and learning we deliver. Therefore, the event allowed Justin and Shannon to showcase the many innovations and positive developmets currently taking place within PAIS - our advice and feedback hours, our individual exam feedback, our online SSLC elections, and our joint work with the Politics Society, in particular through their mentoring scheme.
Two interviews with Stuart Elden
Stuart Elden has been interviewed on two websites recently about his work. First with Peter Sigrist on the Polis website () and second on the Groundwork website of the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy of Kingston University ().
Both interviews cover Stuart's work, past, present and future, and related issues about publishing, blogging and universities today.
Oz Hassan Credited in Oscar Nominated Documentary "The Square"
has been credited in the oscar nominated, and Sundance Award winning, documentary "The Square" due to his kickstarter support for the documentary.
Directed by Jehane Noujaim (Control Room, Startup.com, Rafea: Solar Mama), the documentary looks at the Egyptian Revolution over a two and a half year period by giving an immersive and on the ground view of events. It transports the viewer into a deeply emotional dramaand personal stories behind the news. It is the inspirational story of young people claiming their rights, struggling through multiple forces, in the fight to create a society of conscience.

Cyber Activism workshop
The Ethics of Cyber-Activism Workshop is to be held with the support of the and the at the University of 糖心TV on the 21st February in the DigiLab on the University of 糖心TV Campus.
Topics to be addressed:
- How best can we define Cyber-activism and relate it to other uses of the web?
- What are the ethical implications of Cyber-activism, and how do these differ from the implications of other forms of political activism?
- In what respects is Cyber-activism a new way of participating in the political and social life of contemporary societies?
