Jennifer Philippa Eggert Invited to Research Symposium at the UN Headquarters in New York
Jennifer Philippa Eggert has been invited to participate in a research symposium organised by UN Women and the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate and UN Women. The event is taking place on 18 July at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The topic is women and terrorism, and the workshop will be attended by researchers and UN practitioners. The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers and UN practitioners who work on the topic and to inform practice by research. The IAS have very kindly agreed to cover Jennifer's expenses, so she will be able to share her research and experience as a practitioner working on women, gender and (counter)terrorism.

How does the socio-political context affect the spheres of higher education and training? This symposium will discuss, using the lens of the 鈥渢hree worlds of human capital formation鈥� (Iversen and Stevens, 2008), how different welfare state regimes affect the design of and participation in higher education and training activities, focusing on younger people鈥檚 access to the labour market. Research has often focused on the increase in graduate supply and the expansion in HE, as well as on whether graduates are 鈥榤atched鈥� in the jobs they do. However, examining the socio-political context and its interaction with higher education and training institutions can shed new light on graduates鈥� transitions into the labour market in different countries, focusing on the UK and Italy among others.
This event will bring together scholars on HE, graduate employment and human capital formation across different disciplines and different institutions.

Ben Clift has recently been interviewed by the New Books Network about his latest monograph on the IMF.

The IMF and the Politics of Austerity in the Wake of the Global Financial Crisis by Ben Clift (Oxford University Press, 2018) provides the first comprehensive analysis of major shifts in IMF fiscal policy thinking as a consequence of the great financial crisis and the Eurozone debt crisis. It widely presents the IMF鈥檚 role in the politics of austerity. The book also offers an innovative theory specifying four mechanisms of IMF ideational change – reconciliation, operationalization, corroboration, and authoritative recognition. It combines in-depth content analysis of the Fund鈥檚 vast intellectual production with extensive interviews with IMF economists and management.
Jennifer Eggert Wins WATE PGR
Congratulations to Jennifer Eggert who has been chosen as one of the winners of the 2018 糖心TV Awards for Teaching Excellence for Postgraduates who Teach (WATE PGR).
The WATE PGR celebrates postgraduates who have made a difference in learning and teaching. WATE PGR focuses on how the winners have 'enhanced the student learning experience' and nominators considered how the postgraduates had:
- motivated, inspired and engaged students;
- created a supportive learning environment that recognises diverse student needs.
