Join Patrick Le Gal猫s (CNRS Research Professor of Sociology, Politics and Urban Studies at Sciences Po) at PAIS as he discusses the challenges facing governance of large metropolitan areas using Paris as a case study.

In this talk, Dr. Wang explores the phenomenon of "performative responsiveness" in legislators. Why they dedicate considerable time to attending local, apolitical, and private constituency events. Taking a comparative perspective using cases ranging across Asia and Africa, Dr. Wang reveals a gap in the literature on this particular pressure guiding legislator behaviour and providing an additional informal avenue through which they can attempt to cultivate and wield influence.

Dr. Peng examines the rise of scam centres along the China–Southeast Asia borderlands, revealing them as structured infrastructures that mobilize people, money, and influence. This talk uncovers how illicit operations are systematized through brokers, governance zones, and digital platforms.

The International Political Economy research cluster will be holding an IPE Chats Lunch for PAIS colleagues to share ideas and troubleshoot issues in their current research over lunch.

A collection of original contributions from a range of scholars inspired by the work of our much-missed former colleague Tim Sinclair who sadly died in 2022. The book critically engages and further applies his social foundations approach to global finance.
