Dr. Maria Koinova (University of ÌÇÐÄTV) and Dr. Gerasimos Tsourapas (University of Birmingham) are co-organizing a workshop on "Governing Transit Migration: Varieties of Approaches to International Politics" on 17 September, 2018 at ÌÇÐÄTV University.

This workshop is part of the activities of the British International Studies Association working group on the "International Politics of Migration, Refugees and Diasporas," which they co-founded in 2016. The workshop has attracted established and early career scholars from the UK, Europe, US, Canada, and Peru.

Arzu Kibris has been named a Turing Fellow by the Alan Turing Institute for a tenure of two years. The ATI is the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. The fellowship will allow Arzu to interact with colleagues in related disciplines and at other universities, initiate research through new collaborations and partnerships and help set the research agenda for the Institute.

The Human Rights Select Committee has extensively quoted research undertaken in PAIS, in their report into the Counterterrorism and Border Security Bill.

The Committee quotes and uses findings from Dr Charlotte Heath-Kelly's 'Counterterrorism in the NHS' report to support their recommendation that a full review of the Prevent strategy is undertaken:

On 9 March 2017, Dr Georg Löfflmann presented the ‘Border Narratives’ project at the British Council in Mexico City. Border Narratives is a Leverhulme-funded research project led by Prof. Nick Vaughan-Williams aimed at investigating how diverse European publics perceive, understand, and experience 'the migration crisis' in the context of their everyday lives.

The keynote was a public lecture held in the Museo Memoria y Tolerancia and came at the end of a 3-day ‘Policy Incubator’ programme, developed by the British Council in Mexico in collaboration with the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The idea behind the ‘Policy Incubator’ is to empower young people and to develop and share counter and alternative narratives as means to participate in the process of positively influencing public policy in the field of migration.

The event was attended by over 200 people and proved a fantastic opportunity to showcase the ‘Border Narratives’ project, facilitate public engagement on migration and border security, and explore partnerships with emerging leaders and stakeholders at the intersection of government, private sector, community outreach, and academic research.

Drs Charlotte Heath-Kelly and Steve Kettell recently gave TEDx talks, for , on the theme of conflict.

Dr Heath-Kelly's talk, The Motivation of Terrorism, explored the motivations of terrorism, as identified through Charlotte's interviews with members of EOKA (a terrorist organization based in Cyprus).

Dr Kettell's talk, The Necessity of Secularism, addressed the role religion plays in warfare and will question society’s habit of hastily blaming religion for conflict.
