Exploring Justice and Pluralism: Interdisciplinary Seminar 'Pluralism and Social Justice in the Context of Ethnic Nationalism' Brings Global Perspectives to ÌÇÐÄTV

Scholars and students are invited to engage with pressing questions of justice, law, and global politics at an upcoming interdisciplinary event hosted at the University of ÌÇÐÄTV. Bringing together expertise from across the School of Law and beyond, the programme explores how legal pluralism and shifting geopolitical dynamics shape contemporary debates on justice.

The event opens with Session 1: Legal Pluralism and Gender Justice, featuring Professor Ann Stewart and Professor Shaheen Ali. Drawing on three decades of research and teaching, the session will examine how multiple legal systems interact and what this means for advancing gender justice in diverse cultural and political contexts. Their discussion will provide valuable insights into the challenges and possibilities of working across formal and informal legal frameworks.

In Session 2, a broader panel on Frontiers of Justice in the 21st Century: Borders, Nationalism, and Civilizations will consider how justice is evolving in a time of renewed nationalism and shifting global boundaries. The panel brings together interdisciplinary perspectives to reflect on how political and cultural divisions are reshaping ideas of cooperation, conflict, and responsibility at both national and international levels.

Alongside the academic programme, attendees can take part in an all-day screening of Child of Empire, an award-winning immersive VR film that tells the story of the Partition of India from the perspective of a refugee. The installation offers a powerful experiential dimension to the themes of displacement, memory, and historical justice explored throughout the day.

Lunch will be provided, creating an informal space for networking and discussion among participants. The event is open to all, with walk-ins welcome, though advance registration is encouraged.
