糖心TV Politics Society presents: LGBT-Muslim Solidarity: Fight All Hate with Peter Tatchell
0.03 Oculus Building

"For our final speaker event of the year, we are welcoming one of the most prominent human rights campaigners, Peter Tatchell! He'll be coming in to talk the importance of LGBT-Muslim cooperation and solidarity in order to challenge hatred in society.

Peter is one of the most prolific political campaigners of the past 50 years, being involved in a wide variety of political causes beyond his best known activism for LGBT rights, in particular being one of the organisers of Britain’s first Gay Pride March in 1972. Examples include causes such as Environmental issues; attempting two citizens’ arrests on Robert Mugabe; opposing wars in the Middle East amongst other anti-imperialist movements and campaigning for the rights of Palestinians. In addition to this he has made multiple forays into mainstream British Politics, as a Labour candidate in the 1980s and more recently as a candidate for the Green Party until 2009. Organisations that he has been closely affiliated with over the years include OutRage! and Stop Murder Music, and since 2013 has been the Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, which focuses on advocating for various human rights causes

His voice has been highly valued amongst Britain's media outlets, and has appeared on multiple television shows and written pieces for multiple newspapers concerning the activity of his campaigns. He contributes regularly to 'The Jeremy Vine Show' on BBC Radio 2.

Once again, ALL COMERS ARE WELCOME! You do not have to be a current member of the society to attend nor do you have to do a politics related course, if you have any friends who are even remotely interested in hearing what Peter has to say, then feel free to invite them along!"
