Join us for our first talk of the academic year- ‘Responsibility in IR.’

“Responsibility is much in vogue in both the literature and the practice of international relations these days. EG Individuals are held to be 'responsible' for certain crimes by the ICC, Corporations, NGOs and states are supposedly 'responsible' stakeholders in international society and can be (though often are not) punished if they are shown not to be and, of course, in 2005 the UN adopted the doctrine of Responsibility to Protect (R2P). But all of this assumes there is a coherent, meaningful and deployable notion of responsibility in international relations. This paper argues that there is not.”

Profile: Currently based at St. Andrews, Nick’s academic career spans a range of issues across IR, including ethics of war, political theory, social thought and history. A member of the Academia Europeaea, Nick has held roles at a range of departments, from Oxford, Nottingam and LSE, to South Carolina.
