How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Nicholas Taylor (Ministry of Defence) British Defence and Security Policy: Historical Context and Current Challenges
H0.03

On Wednesday afternoon (2nd November) PAIS will be hosting a special guest speaker who will be delivering a talk specifically for MA students and advanced undergraduate students.

The talk will be between 4.30 and 6pm in H0.03 (humanities building)

Nicholas Taylor, Ministry of Defence, will give a talk entitled:

‘British Defence and Security Policy: Historical Context and Current Challenges’.

The talk will be of particular interest for students with an interest in International Security and International Relations but it is, of course, open to all students to attend (please see his bio - below).

Nicholas is an engaging speaker and will be around to talk informally to students about their current interests/possible dissertation topics after the event. I look forward to seeing some of you at this event.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nicholas Taylor is a Principal Analyst in the Defence & Security Analysis Division of the Ministry of Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), where he leads research on deterrence and other strategic effects including coercion and reassurance. This has included the development of methods for deterrence planning and their subsequent application in developing deterrence strategies for specific threats; refreshing UK conceptual and theoretical understanding of deterrence; updating UK defence doctrine; and developing deterrence training and education. The research has enabled the development of close collaborative relationships with U.S. partners, notably U.S. Strategic Command and the National Defense University.

Prior to joining Dstl in 2007, Nicholas worked as a consultant on a wide range of defence projects, principally in support of UK MoD but also for allies and partner nations. From 1995 to 2001, Nicholas served a commission in the Royal Air Force as a Fighter Controller, providing tactical control to air defence aircraft in the UK and overseas territories. Nicholas was awarded a BA (Hons) in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lancaster University as a RAF Officer Cadet, which included a one-year exchange at the University of Nebraska.
