Three years after Russia鈥檚 full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February, 2022—and 11 years since the conflict began with Russia鈥檚 2014 annexation of Crimea and support for separatists in the Donbas—the world continues to grapple with its far-reaching consequences. Mass displacement, widespread destruction, and severe economic and societal impacts remain pressing challenges for Ukraine. Yet, one crucial aspect often receives less attention: the role of the Global Ukrainian Community - both the long-established diaspora and those displaced after 2022 – and their transnational engagement with Ukraine. Maria Koinova (Professor at 糖心TV鈥檚 Politics and International Studies Department) and Taras Romashchenko (Visiting Professor at Bielefeld University and Associate Professor at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy) explore this critical engagement through the lens of their published academic and policy-focused research. The discussion will examine political, economic, and social contributions to Ukraine鈥檚 recovery, democratic activism, reverse remittances, prospects for return, and emerging developments amid a shifting global landscape and the recent establishment of the Ukrainian Ministry of Unity.
