WGDS Seminar: Brexit, the Commonwealth and Developing Countries
Location: OC1.02 The Oculus
Speaker: Gabriel Siles-Br眉gge
Brexit is presented by some as a boon for developing countries, allowing the UK to offer more generous trading terms to its allies in the Commonwealth than the supposedly 'protectionist' EU.
In this talk, Gabriel Siles-Br眉gge suggests that the picture is far more complex. Brexiteer's enthusiasm for 'free trade' with the Commonwealth neglects not only the disruption caused by Brexit, but also oversells the benefits of increased liberalisation for developing economies.
Dr Gabriel Siles-Br眉gge is an Associate Professor in Public Policy in the PAIS department as well as Director of the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation.
