Online Roundtable "South Korea After Yoon's Presidency"

About the Roundtable

The sentencing of former President Yoon Suk Yeol to life imprisonment by the Seoul Central District Court on 19thFebruary 2026 marked a milestone in the legal fallout of his declaration of martial law. However, with an appeal certain and a nation divided by the dramatic circumstances of his departure, this moment may represent less a conclusion and more an entry point into a complex period for Korean politics and international relations in the context of a changing geopolitical order and an increasingly turbulent regional one.

The panel will reflect on how the 2022-4 Yoon Presidency fits into Korea鈥檚 broader political history, its impact on the trajectory of Korea鈥檚 domestic politics and international relations, and what the future holds for Korean politics and foreign policy after the verdict.
