Blended Learning Feedback

We are beginning to think about the format of teaching we shall be offering students from October. In the HoD WLS News 7/22, the University鈥檚 鈥楥ovid-19 roadmap 鈥 communication to HoDs was circulated, which stated:

鈥淥ur core learning paradigm remains face-to-face (F2F) contact because we know from students and staff that it offers pedagogic advantages for students鈥 education but also socially and allowing full engagement in campus and university life. F2F is critical for developing transferable social skills, peer support and departmental learning communities. At the same time, future teaching models should also adopt a pedagogy that makes the most of the advances in blended and online learning that we have experienced and learned from in recent years. We now have proven the benefits of online provision in enhancing inclusive practice and support students with additional learning needs鈥

For 2022/23, as we transition fully out of COVID restrictions and undertake more consultations on our longer-term model of teaching and learning, we would expect modules to be mainly delivered though FTF sessions with a potential element of online learning included where it demonstrably enhances the educational experience. Large group teaching will continue to be provided FTF in most cases. There may be some teaching required for very large groups that can only be delivered via live synchronous, or asynchronous, online methods where these are pedagogically effective.

To help WLS develop the best pedagogical format, we are conducting a survey amongst staff and students to establish what has worked well this term, and what not so well.
