Just Transition Research and Policy Network

The Just Transition Research and Policy Network is an interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder coalition of academics, researchers, policymakers, advocates, civil society and social movement actors working to advance evidence-based law and policymaking on just and equitable transitions to low-carbon and climate-resilient economies and societies. The network aims to develop an collaborative and inclusive research agenda grounded in justice, equity and human rights that is responsive to local and national circumstances and responds to national and international legal and policy contexts.

The network serves as a platform to coordinate academic and policy expertise, enable and strengthen global south participation and engagement in national and international decision-making processes, and mobilise timely, policy-relevant research which addresses the legal, institutional, and financial challenges of implementing just transitions in the global south. The network will focus explicitly on just transitions in the global south where research and policy capacity remains fragmented and limited and often unsuited to local and national contexts of communities in developing countries. Developing countries, who contributed proportionately less to the climate crisis are facing disproportionately higher financial, social and economic cost of energy and economic transitions.
