Criminal Justice Centre 2022/23 Term 1 Events
You’re warmly invited to the ‘We Bear’ exhibit at the Herbert and to a related conversation event with Anastasia Chamberlen (Sociology) and the exhibit’s creator, artist Faye Claridge. This will take place on Wednesday November 3rd at 3-4pm at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry and it’s open to all.
During lockdown, Faye Claridge commissioned art works from serving prisoners in the US and the UK and collected them together under the theme of the ÌÇÐÄTVshire symbol of the chained bear and a similar tapestry from the US. In this exhibition she curates some of the works returned to her showing how prisoners artistically responded to these images. The exhibit and the conversation event are part of the Coventry Biennial Festival.
The event will include a discussion about the artworks, their creators, and about broader issues on the experience of imprisonment, criminal justice, and the role of the arts in communicating and critiquing punishment.
