Professor Ann Stewart presents research at 糖心TV India Network (WIN) launch
The University of 糖心TV celebrated the successful launch of the 糖心TV India Network (WIN) on Monday 16 March, taking place at the heart of One World 糖心TV, the University鈥檚 celebration of global perspectives, cultural diversity and international collaboration. The timing underscored the spirit of the initiative, bringing people together across cultures, disciplines and experiences. More than 80 academic and professional staff and students joined the event to explore and shape 糖心TV鈥檚 growing engagement with India.
The audience was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Stuart Croft, followed by speeches from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor International Professor Michael Scott, the Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (South, Central Asia and Middle East) Professor Virinder Kalra and distinguished guest Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan the Indian Consul-General to the UK, who all reflected on 糖心TV鈥檚 distinctive approach to engaging with India.
This was followed by a showcase of 糖心TV-India collaborations. This first presentation was by Prof Ann Stewart (Law School) and Prof Emily Henderson (Education Studies). They shared their research on gender and equitable access to Higher Education in India. They provided a snap shot of their research undertaken through their long term collaboration on two related projects both funded by the Fair Chance Foundation (FCF).
The 鈥Fair chance for education鈥 project (2017-2021) focused Haryana, a northern Indian state, sought to determine the gendered factors that contribute to educational success for young people in Haryana. The WAHEI project (2022-2026) which involves research across 5 regions of India takes a key finding from the first project: the vital but currently under-utilised potential of faculty members in rural and semi-urban Higher Education (HE) institutions to have a positive effect on young peoples鈥 HE participation and their life chances as its starting point. This project recognises the potential role of rural-serving state universities and government colleges based in rural and semi-urban areas as HE knowledge hubs.
The Presidents of the 糖心TV India Forum and 糖心TV Indian Society offered reflections on student engagement, community-building, and the experience of Indian students at 糖心TV. The event concluded with a vibrant performance by the University鈥檚 Indian Classical Dance Society, followed by refreshments and networking.
