Dr Maebh Harding Speaks on BBC Radio Regarding Recent Family Court Study
Following her recent , has featured on BBC Radio Humberside to discuss the findings.
The discussion also included an interview with Glen Poole, author of ‘Equality For Men’.
Dr Harding states during the interview:-
These were the most difficult cases, half of them had allegations of serious domestic violence, 45% had serious child welfare issues like parental drug and alcohol addiction, neglect, mental health issues. So these are not your typical group of cases, these are the most difficult cases in society that the Courts have to deal with – they required some kind of adjudication to move forward.
The Courts are there to deal with the really difficult cases. These are cases where parents could not come to their own resolution because of a serious problem. So with concerns that maybe these are not the most suitable cases for mediation going forward, and with cuts to Legal Aid, will parents who can no longer really access Court agree to potentially dangerous arrangements, or simply fail to reach any agreement about their children, prolonging the conflict? That is one of our concerns coming out of this study.
