WAHEI team present at UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, (MMTTC) Maharashtra, India
WAHEI project team members Dr Nidhi Sabharwal and Prof Ann Stewart alongside Prof Dhaneshri Mahajan presented an online version of the WAHEI project’s “HE outreach Module: What this means and why it is important” on the 3rd February 2026 as part of the one-month-long Faculty Induction Programme at the UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, (MMTTC) based at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Maharashtra. The session was attended by 77 faculty members drawn from 17 Higher Education Institutions from the state of Maharashtra.
A key delivery of the WAHEI project is the design, build and implementation of a Higher Education (HE) Outreach Module designed to introduce faculty members to the concept of HE outreach and its importance; to explain different outreach activities; and to demonstrate what is required institutionally to organise such activities in a way that delivers socially just HE outreach.
This event enabled the team to assess the extent to which the Module which was designed to be conducted in-person could be adapted for use in the online mode adopted by MMTTCs. The in-person module is participant focused and involves practical activities. It was established that the chat box facility in Google Meet – the online platform used for the event could support such an approach when the Module, in an adapted form, was conducted online. The interactive elements worked and produced considerable engagement from the participants both through their verbal interactions but also with good use of the chat box facility. The contribution from Prof Mahajan (director of the MMTTC at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Maharashtra ) as Maharashtra State Research Team leader for WAHEI added invaluable local contextual knowledge drawn from the research.
