DEAR Centre features at the 60th anniversary SRHE conference December 2025
In early December 2025, DEAR staff and students headed to the University of Nottingham to attend the annual conference.
For the 2025 conference, the DEAR Centre had 3 key events planned, kicking off with a DEAR Centre coordinated symposium on the topic of “founding” initiatives in HE. Presentations included a contribution from Advisory Board member from the University of Redlands whose paper was titled “The (un)welcome story: undertaking a school of education’s history to (re)claim, (re)member and matter in HE”
DEAR Centre Director and PGR student from TV presented “Just call yourself a centre: unpacking the founding moments of research centres” on behalf of the Heart of Research project team.
DEAR Centre Deputy Director presented “Complex beginnings: unpacking the founding of a positive action programme for Black researchers” on behalf of the wider PATHWAY Programme evaluation team including
And PGR researcher presented her doctoral research “Founding a residential workshop as a fieldwork site for a politically contested context: researching doctoral academic socialization”.
Later in the conference, DEAR PGR student Evan Zheng shared her doctoral project. Evan’s presentation was titled “A fast track to the middle class: A digital ethnography of China’s doctoral degree mobility industry”. Congratulations to Evan.
Further congratulations go to DEAR doctoral and postdoctoral group member who presented on “Compassion and agency in conflict: Syrian academics negotiating institutional discourses in HE”.
