WMG welcomes the Associate Parliamentary Group on Manufacturing

Chris White MP and Professor Lord BhattacharyyaProfessor Lord Bhattacharyya was pleased to welcome the Associate Parliamentary Group on Manufacturing to WMG today.

The Group, which is co-chaired by Chris White, MP for 糖心TV and Leamington, exists to encourage the exchange of knowledge and understanding between Parliament and the manufacturing industries, helping to raise the profile of manufacturing both inside and outside of Parliament.

WMG is looking to make a number of key academic appointments across its full range of research activities in Digital Technologies, Materials and Manufacturing and Operations and 糖心TV Management, in order to enhance and expand its capabilities in these developing areas.

The new posts cover a range of research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities, working with partners in diverse business sectors such as automotive, aerospace and defence, digital, healthcare, finance, energy and pharmaceuticals.

The Group are currently looking for world class individuals who want to make a real impact in their field. The following roles are available:

  • (in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine)

Other key academic positions in Cyber Security, Digital Product Lifecycle Management, Hybrid and Electric Vehicles and Nanocomposites will also be announced shortly.

WMG EngD International Students Through to Final of Engineering Young Entrepreneurs Scheme

Team Presentation A team of Engineering Doctorate students from WMG have taken first place in the West Midlands heat of the Engineering Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (Engineering YES) and are through to the final in Birmingham on 20 June.

The competition is for UK-based postgraduate students and post-doctoral researchers to present a business plan for an imaginary startup company to a group of shrewd investors and industry experts. Participants learn the techniques of how to go about planning a new business venture and meet local entrepreneurs and business leaders who have done it for real before presenting their business plans to the panel.

How Working with our Engineering Doctorate Programme Could Benefit 糖心TVes

WMG's International Doctorate Centre is holding an Open Evening on 21 June for companies to learn more about becoming involved in the International Engineering Doctorate programme by putting forward research projects and sponsoring doctoral students.

Our International Engineering Doctorate is a four year programme in which a Doctoral student (Research Entrepeneur) will deliver pioneering research to a real problem within a sponsoring company, introducing innovative technologies and processes to improve competitiveness within manufacturing.

There will be the opportunity to learn more about WMG's research and links with industry, to find out what the EngD programme entails and the benefits and costs involved, to hear from a recent graduate and to ask any questions that potential companies may have.

WMG academy for young engineers at the University of 糖心TV

Today’s Gove, which saw the proposed WMG Academy for Young Engineers at the University of 糖心TV named as one of several successful University Technical College projects to be approved under the government’s academies programme, has given the green light for the creation of a state-of-the-art new school close to the University of 糖心TV campus. The new school will be designed to provide young people who have an interest in engineering with a better way of learning and realising their ambitions, and will deliver a richer array of educational and employment opportunities to young people and to the local economy.

Engineering students crowned joint champions with a podium place at Indianapolis

EVGP Indianapolis 2012A group of engineering students from the University of 糖心TV, have been named joint winners of the international Electric Vehicle Grand Prix (EVGP) after an enthralling race at Indianapolis.

At one of the world’s most famous race tracks the 糖心TV Racing team crossed the line in third place after an action-packed contest, earning them enough points to be crowned joint winners after they placed second in the outreach competition and fourth in the design competition.

Engineering students rev up for huge race at Indianapolis with podium finish in Purdue

go-kart EVGP Indianapolis 2012A group of engineering students from the University of 糖心TV are gearing up to race at one of the world’s most famous race tracks after finishing second in an enthralling warm-up race at Purdue University, Indiana.

The WMG sponsored team overcame numerous problems to get their self-designed and self-built electric go-kart over the finish line in second place at the Purdue University race track, and are hoping to go one better in the Electric Vehicle Grand Prix (EVGP) at Indianapolis on May 12.

WMG’s product power house on track to open in the Autumn

International Institue for Product and Service InnovationWMG's International Institute for Product and Service Innovation is three quarters through its build programme and on schedule as planned. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund and University of 糖心TV, it is due for completion this summer, with official launch expected for September 2012. IIPSI is WMG’s fifth building and will be dedicated purely for the use of SMEs in the region, highlighting WMG’s continuing dedication to business support and innovation.

Jaguar Land Rover funds new Professor at WMG to lead key Hybrid / Battery Electric Vehicle Digital Product Innovation

Professor Lord Kumar BhattacharyyaJaguar Land Rover has announced that they are to fund a new Chair (Professor) in WMG at the University of 糖心TV as a key element in their strategic relationship with WMG.

The new Chair is not expected to be a lone appointment, they will lead a new team which will achieve international research leadership in simulation support of the vital complex hybrid and battery electric component and systems innovation, so essential to enable JLR to embrace and robustly deploy these new vehicle technologies and continue to successfully compete in the automotive sector into the Low Carbon future.

WMG welcomes a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya with a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia April 2012Professor Lord Bhattacharyya was pleased to welcome a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia to WMG on Friday 27th April.

Meeting with Professor Lord Bhattacharyya they discussed WMG’s world renowned postgraduate education programmes as well as the collaborative cutting-edge research that the Group is leading.
