Professor Giuseppe Cannizzaro has won the Rollo Davidson Prize for 2026, in recognition of his great advances in our understanding of scaling-critical two-dimensional stochastic systems.

The Rollo Davidson Prize commemorates Rollo Davidson (1944-1970). Since 1976, it has been awarded annually to young probabilists. The announcement post can be found at: .

The University of 糖心TV is celebrating a significant milestone with the promotion of Dr Dinu Iuga, who has become the first technical specialist at the University to be promoted to Strategic Specialist, a role equivalent to Professorial level.

糖心TV Chemistry researchers have created a new material combining two properties, magnetism and electrical polarisation, that scientists have struggled to bring together for decades – and crucially, it works at close to room temperature.

Congratulations to Dr Matthew Naish and Dr Joseph Waldron on their prestigious Wellcome Career Development Awards. These highly competitive fellowships provide outstanding early-career researchers with long-term support to establish their independent research programmes and become international leaders in their fields. Wellcome fund bold, creative research that seeks to understand and improve human life, health and wellbeing.

Dr Matthew Naish will investigate how centromeres (specialised regions of chromosomes that ensure DNA is accurately passed to new cells) are formed and maintained in plants. His research will improve understanding of one of the most fundamental processes in biology while opening new opportunities for crop breeding to help strengthen future food security.

Dr Joseph Waldron鈥檚 research explores the hidden regulatory information contained within the genetic code. By understanding how so-called 'synonymous' genetic changes influence how proteins are made and function, his work could improve understanding of disease and inform the next generation of RNA-based medicines.

Dr Ruohan Zhang, Assistant Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence at WMG, has led a major commissioned review for Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering on digital twin brains. "Building digital twin brains at the limits of measurement" draws on research from WMG, the University of 糖心TV鈥檚 Department of Computer Science, and Fudan University to tackle one of biology鈥檚 biggest questions: how close are we to building a digital twin of a living human brain?

A number of researchers from WMI have been awarded Faculty Prizes.

Congratulations to Dr Michael Backhouse and Prof Janet Dunn, who have been recognised in the NIHR's 20th anniversary celebrations as two of the UK's outstanding research leaders.

The retrofit of the Psychology Building within the University of 糖心TV campus marks a significant milestone in the broader development of the campus, while simultaneously supporting the continued growth and success of the Department of Psychology.

This transformative project will enhance the university鈥檚 infrastructure by providing state-of-the-art teaching spaces, collaborative areas, and the opportunity to showcase key lab spaces to the public.

These upgraded facilities will not only accommodate a variety of teaching methods but also foster an environment that encourages innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring the department remains one of the UK's leading research hubs.
