Prof. Gary Bending awarded €2.5m ERC grant to decode soil's hidden synchronization
Prof. Gary Bending has won a €2.5 million ERC Advanced Grant to investigate how plants coordinate the daily rhythms of soil microbes around their roots, work that could transform soil management and crop health.
Gary is one of 319 awardees across Europe who have won funding which gives senior researchers the opportunity to pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects that could lead to major scientific breakthroughs

John Grimwade Medal Award
Dr Oksana Trushkevych (School of Engineering) and Prof Steve Dixon (Physics) won the from the British Institute of Non-destructive Testing.
This prestigious award inaugurated in 1981 is presented annually for the best paper by an Institute member to appear in the Institute’s journal in the preceding year.
