23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1823-2 00:12:04.344 --> 00:12:08.412 And also who was who had surgery in the offseason? 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1850-0 00:12:08.412 --> 00:12:12.431 Because I'd observed this phenomenon of people managing their injuries throughout 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1850-1 00:12:12.431 --> 00:12:16.450 the season and then when you've got that little window of opportunity at the end, 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1850-2 00:12:16.450 --> 00:12:18.852 that would be when the surgery would take place. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1865-0 00:12:20.302 --> 00:12:24.159 So I had three professional football teams in my Cohort Championship League 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1865-1 00:12:24.159 --> 00:12:25.022 One and League 2. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1893-0 00:12:25.332 --> 00:12:31.612 Teams and we found various things that sort of met with what we were expecting 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1893-1 00:12:31.612 --> 00:12:35.587 around us, missing important injuries through our 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1893-2 00:12:35.587 --> 00:12:38.132 traditional surveillance models. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1915-0 00:12:38.132 --> 00:12:41.775 So overall, we found you can see on the graph here 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1915-1 00:12:41.775 --> 00:12:47.134 there was a that appeared in my cohorts at least to be a sort of effect of 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1915-2 00:12:47.134 --> 00:12:48.492 playing level here. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1923-0 00:12:48.492 --> 00:12:52.932 So it was much more prominent in the lower leagues compared to those fire 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1923-1 00:12:52.932 --> 00:12:53.412 leagues. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1953-0 00:12:53.872 --> 00:12:57.161 And in fact, for the League Two team that were in the 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1953-1 00:12:57.161 --> 00:12:59.963 cohort, only 15% of the games that took place 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1953-2 00:12:59.963 --> 00:13:03.192 that season had a fully fit match team at the start. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1991-0 00:13:04.862 --> 00:13:09.876 About half of the injuries we picked up this way were acute traumatic half were 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1991-1 00:13:09.876 --> 00:13:12.822 overuse, identified a number of those injuries 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1991-2 00:13:12.822 --> 00:13:15.893 that were then managed at the end of the season. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/1991-3 00:13:15.893 --> 00:13:18.902 Things like inguinal repair and tendinopathies. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2003-0 00:13:18.902 --> 00:13:22.461 So managed all the way through through taping, strapping, 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2003-1 00:13:22.461 --> 00:13:24.302 injecting all sorts of things. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2010-0 00:13:24.652 --> 00:13:27.132 To kind of get them through to the end of the season. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2058-0 00:13:28.582 --> 00:13:32.427 So overall, there was at least one injured player in 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2058-1 00:13:32.427 --> 00:13:37.723 48% of all the games that I surveyed, and I followed up with qualitative 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2058-2 00:13:37.723 --> 00:13:43.599 interviews with some of those players who we identified as as playing while they 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2058-3 00:13:43.599 --> 00:13:47.662 were injured. And there were lots of reasons that were. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2071-0 00:13:47.662 --> 00:13:50.882 Sort of influencing antecedent factors for that, 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2071-1 00:13:50.882 --> 00:13:54.102 and they broadly fell into sort of three groups. 23959fb8-0566-483f-86b5-4bad4bbdbf88/2080-0 00:13:54.452 --> 00:13:58.212 So there were personal factors.
