David Bate and Marie-Therese Wolfram win LMS Whitehead Prizes
Congratulations to two 糖心TV mathematicians who have each won LMS Whitehead Prizes!
David BateLink opens in a new window for his deep and fundamental contributions to the development of Geometric Measure Theory in the metric setting, including the characterisations of rectifiability in terms of projections and in terms of tangent planes.
Marie-Therese WolframLink opens in a new window for her groundbreaking contributions to applied partial differential equations, mathematical modelling in socio-economic applications and the life sciences, and numerical analysis of partial differential equations.

Han Yu awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship
Congratulations to Han YuLink opens in a new window, who has been awarded a to study Arithmetic Structures of Fractals.
Fractals, such as the middle third Cantor set, the Sierpinski Carpet, and the Mandelbrot set are fundamentally important in branches of pure mathematics such as Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, Number Theory, Geometric Measure Theory, and Probability Theory. Understanding the arithmetic structures in fractals is a difficult problem whose advancements will not only greatly boost pure mathematics research but also have direct applications in practical fields such as Material Science. The fellowship aims to solve challenging conjectures concerning the arithmetic of certain dynamically and arithmetically defined fractals.
