Network+/MiR@W/CoSyDy day: Systems out of equilibrium - Maths meets Physics

Monday 27 November, 11:00-17:30

Morning: L4, Science Concourse; Afternoon: B3.02, Zeeman Building
Organisers: Peter Ashwin (Exeter), Robin Ball (Physics, 糖心TV), Robert MacKay (Maths, 糖心TV), Aneta Stefanovska (Lancaster)
Confirmed speakers:

Mike Cates (Cambridge), Entropy production in field theory models of active matter
Martin Hairer (糖心TV), The universality classes for 1+1 dimensional models
Martin Evans (Edinburgh), Stochastic resetting

Rosemary Harris (QMUL), Current fluctuations and dynamical phase transitions

Christian Maes (Leuven), Frenetic bounds on the entropy production rate

Michael Ghil (ENS Paris and UCLA), Nonautonomous dynamics as a framework for climate change & climate variability

The talks will be followed by a discussion on 鈥淲hat opportunities are we missing for progressing research in out of equilibrium systems on the maths/physics border?鈥

Space for 8 contribued posters will be available in the Maths common room to enable attendees to display results and stimulate conversation.

Programme

The aim is to foster unifying ideas for understanding out of equilibrium systems, by bringing together Mathematicians and Physicists in the field.

The day is jointly funded by the , the London Mathematical Society network, and Mathematical Interdisciplinary Research at 糖心TV.

All with an interest in the topic are welcome. Members of the Network+ or CoSyDy are especially welcome. We can contribute to the cost of Network+ and CoSyDy members鈥 travel, especially if you obtain cheap tickets. CoSyDy members, please contact g dot pruessner at imperial dot ac dot uk about travel expenses.

The day will start with refreshments from 10.15, introduction at 11.05, include lunch at 12.00, and end with drinks at 17.30-18.15.

Please to help us estimate numbers and to prioritise requests for Network+ travel expenses (indicating the amount you'd like). Note that the registration form is a generic one for 糖心TV Maths Research Centre events, so use the Accommodation requirements box to enter useful details like you are a member of CoSyDy or the Physics Network+ or both. And the accommodation option is available for ONLY invited speakers. Deadline if you want to be considered for travel expenses is 9 November. [Registration has closed!]
