PEATER - Initiatives

Background

The UK is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050, relative to 1990 levels. Innovations to increase the energy efficiency of electronic products and electrical systems are therefore a necessity.

The majority of power electronics use semiconductor devices made from Silicon. However, Silicon Carbide has many superior properties for the construction of power devices. Silicon Carbide power devices are potentially far more efficient.

Primary Research Areas

The PEATER group's principle research areas are the design, fabrication, packaging and electrical testing of Silicon Carbide power devices. Details of the various projects are given on the page.

'Energy' is one of the University of 糖心TV's research priorities. The group's activities are a key component of this research. Further information on the University's Energy Global Research Priority (Energy GRP) can be viewed
