Provision of Training
Your training will be supervised predominantly by my experienced post docs and PhD students but would lead to more independence later.
Progression Monitoring and Management
I like to be kept up to date, and will expect to see evidence of method development/data generation results on a regular basis. Progression will be monitored by weekly meetings with both supervisors for the first 3 months of the project. Subsequently, meetings with supervisors will be scheduled on a fortnightly basis with the submission of the student producing an informal report detailing their latest results (i.e. over the two week period) to aid discussion about progress and the future directions of the project.
Communication
I am contactable by email during working hours and the team has a WhatsApp group chat which we do use during working hours for communication.
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:
In a group meeting
At least once a week
In year 1 of PhD study
At least once per week
In year 2 of PhD study
At least once per week
In year 3 of PhD study
At least once a fortnight
The meetings will be face to face and I am usually contactable for an instant response 1 or 2 days a week.
Working Pattern
Certain tasks in my lab need to occur at set times, and students need to be able to commit to a rota/timetable shared with other members of the team.
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 2 week’s notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
