Placement - Megan Rousseau

Megan Rousseau is on the Economic & Social History Pathway at the University of Nottingham. Megan undertook a placement with the Manuscripts & Special Collections Archives at the University of Nottingham from 12 January to 9 April 2026.

During Megan's time at the archive, she focused on translating and cataloguing Latin deeds that previously lacked public descriptions. Her work involved Converting complex historical documents into accessible public descriptions, detailing document types such as indentures and final concords. She also created a comprehensive database for 1,383 seals from 1,659 documents across Nottinghamshire, and recorded the dimensions, motifs, and conditions of fragile seals to assist in future conservation and grant applications.

The placement has significantly influenced Megan’s academic outlook. She noted that working with county-wide documents provided a "positive perspective" on the geographical scope of her own PhD, helping her avoid over-generalizing her conclusions regarding Nottingham's city centre.
