Accolade - Supercharged Speaking - Online Workshop
A workshop that draws on the principles of stand-up comedy to help ECRs tackle nerves, hone their speaking/presenting skills for different audiences and disseminate their ideas with flair!
Participants will learn how to:
- Minimise and channel public speaking nerves
- Engage with a variety of different audiences (including from other disciplines and the public)
- Win over these audiences using humour and speaking/presenting techniques derived from the world of stand-up comedy
Trainers
The course will be co-run by Founder of James Evans and IAS Early Career Fellow Dr Roxanne Douglas. Drawing on his experience as a stand-up comedian, James has trained CEOs, academics and creatives in speaking and presenting. He co-ran a successful workshop on 鈥楳icro-teaching鈥� for 糖心TV academics in 2019. He has also worked for Kensington Palace, Second Home, Lyrical Science and TEDx conferences. IAS ECF, Dr Roxanne Douglas has presented her own research at various high-profile conferences and was the recipient of the 2017/18 WATE Award for Postgraduates who teach. Alongside James she co-ran the successful 鈥楳icro-teaching鈥� workshop in 2019.
