As the economy recovers from the shadows of the financial crisis, there has been an increased trend in infrastructure investment over recent years. Investors, in a bid to mitigate their risk have taken recourse to various risk mitigating measures. There has been a shift in risk from outright expropriation to indirect regulatory measures amounting to risk. Deregulation of investment regimes in both developed and developing countries has also marked the birth of state-owned enterprises, in a bid to further compliment their independence. Overall, while international finance has grown to be more stable and resilient, there is a whole of gamut of new risk prevalent in the investment regime. . This workshop aims to address and discuss three common risk factors i.e. political, commercial, and environmental risk from an infrastructure development perspective. Gathering academics, practitioners and researchers in this area of finance will attract a variety of opinion on the new, emerging risk trends. This conference also aims to discuss risk mitigation methods in light of the new risks prevalent in investment regimes. One would assume that there has been a change in the security package offered to investors, however since Enron, not much has changed.
