How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

BICS would like to announce its forthcoming meeting on:

THE MATHS OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS - WHERE ARE WE HEADING?

Wednesday 6th February, room 1W 3.6 University of Bath

Dealing with complexity is one of the key challenges facing mathematics and mathematicians in the 21st Century. Complex systems arise in problems with many different components and scales and are characterised by emergent properties that depend not so much on the behaviour of the individual components but on the way that they interact with each other.

In this meeting we shall have the opportunity to hear the perspectives on complexity of some young researchers working at the interface of maths, physics, engineering & biology and to consider what the issues are in future research into complexity.

Speakers include:

Natalia Babych, "Problems with high contrasts: modelling and analysis"

Melina Freitag, "The Mathematics of Data-Assimilation"

Jan Van lent, "Robust Domain Decomposition Methods"

Nick McCullen, "Emergence phenomena in Complex Composites"

Nathan Smith, "Aspects of ionospheric modelling"

Zhivko Stoyanov, "Clustering and ordering"

The meeting is organised by the Bath Institute for Complex Systems supported by the EPSRC and the Great Western Research Initiative. More details will shortly be posted at:

The meeting starts at 1.30 p.m. but is preceded by a buffet lunch which will start at approximately 12.30 p.m. If you would like to attend the meeting please contact Ann Linfield (masadl@maths.bath.ac.uk) stating whether or not you would like to attend the lunch beforehand.
