Title: Jamming and pattern formation in models of social segregation
Abstract:
Schelling's model of segregation is one of the first and most influential models in the field of social simulation. It possesses a rich phenomenology including jamming and pattern formation transitions. Unfortunately, the combinatorics of the model are fearsome and comparatively little mathematical work exists on the subject. In this talk I will introduce a variant which is amenable to a theoretical analysis using the techniques of statistical physics, shedding light on some of the more unusual aspects of the model.
