From manuscript to printed book: Early Greek and Latin writings
A PG workshop on palaeography at the Univeristy of ÌÇÐÄTV
Friday 4th March 2016, Renaissance Centre, Room H.4.50
Convenor: Dr. Caroline Petit, University of ÌÇÐÄTV
In this workshop, you will hear about the history of writing and the evolution of script; learn to read some ancient Greek and Latin scripts taken from ancient papyri, medieval manuscripts and early printed books; and discover the wider implications of palaeography in historical and literary studies, through various specialised talks, some of which will be given by current/recent PhD students who are passionate about deciphering ancient scripts! The texts we will read and discuss include classical literary texts such as Menander and Lucretius’ works, Christian texts and medieval British documents. You don’t need to be an expert in Greek or Latin to join in! Any level of Greek or Latin welcome.
