The Institute of Advanced Study funds a research group at the interface of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, led by Gareth Roberts (Statistics), Mike Pitt (Economics) and Andrew Stuart (Mathematics). Each Friday lunchtime during term there be an informal group meeting with a number of visitors and topics. The first symposium in the series "Re-envisioning methodological and conceptual issues in historical sociology" will consist of two sessions addressing the different ways in which the ‘methodological nationalism’ of comparative study has been addressed across the disciplines.
