IAS Visiting Fellow Prof Colette Daiute 'Literature and Social Change' (Public Lecture)Zeeman Building, Maths InstitutePublic Lecture by IAS Short-Term Visiting Fellow Prof Colette Daiute (Professor of Psychology, City University, New York) This talk will focus on the high stakes issue of social change, as it occurs in everyday contexts with young people’s uses of the affordances of literacy, literature, and other cultural tools in meaningful activity contexts. In contrast to views that children must develop literacy skills to participate critically in social change, the argument here is that discourse and social change are reciprocal processes.
