Self-Censorship: Amputation of the Will
As an editor of NON, an alternative magazine in Belgrade, I was a witness to the police intervention which censored our new issue and affected the whole operation. But this was not a surprise: NON had been banned regularly during the communist years. What was surprising was how that gesture inflicted a different, and more dangerous damage: I developed a mechanism of self-censorship, which took me years to control and eliminate.
