Paratextual Approaches to Retranslation and Rewriting
The aim of this seminar is to reflect on the relationship between retranslation and the publishing field from a sociological and historical point of view and taking an interdisciplinary approach. The discussion will encompass the history of publishing of books, paratextual features - with a particular focus on illustrated books in translations - and actual textual analysis. I envisage this event as an occasion for discussion and networking among people working on publishing and translation in the School of Modern Languages at all levels (permanent staff, postgraduates and undergraduates) and specialised in different periods. At the same time, the focus on the role of illustrations in printed books and on sociological reasons behind the retranslation process makes it interesting also to scholars and PGs working in the early modern period, History of Art, History of Publishing and Sociology.
