Eccles, David. Larrinaga Line 1863-1974 (World Ship Society, 2005). History of the Basque-owned, Liverpool-based shipping company founded in 1863. The Larrinaga family, from the small town of Mundaka in the Basque province of Vizcaya, were key to the development of Liverpool's Basque community between the 1870s and the 1920s, facilitating the migration of men, women, and entire families from Mundaka and its surrounding region to Liverpool. Eccles's history follows the company's fortunes from its foundation, through the Spanish-American, First, and Second World Wars, to its dissolution in 1974. (scroll down). |

Forrester, Helen. The Liverpool Basque (1993). This moving novel traces the story of Liverpool's early 20th-century Basque waterfront community, through the childhood memories of Manuel Echaniz, a Liverpool Basque pensioner now emigrated to Canada. Based on Forrester's friendship with Vicente Elordieta, a Liverpool Basque she had met in Canada, the novel gives a warm but unsparing insider's view of life in these long-vanished streets and alleyways. . |
