About

Gianmarco Mancosu is a PhD student in Italian Studies in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures under the supervision of Dr Jennifer Burns. He is working on a doctoral research on the non-fictional images related to former Italian colonies and the decolonization in the popular culture between the end of the WWII and the miracolo economico. He focuses popular visual products (newsreels, early TV shows, documentaries) in order to deconstruct the visual archive that defined the borders of the national identity.

In relation to his previous doctoral research (Cagliari, 2012-2015), he started a cooperation with the Archivio Storico dell'Istituto Luce (Rome). Starting from 2011, after his internship in the Italian Embassy in Ethiopia, he collaborates with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Addis Ababa. In 糖心TV, Gianmarco is the coordinator of the Italian Studies Doctoral Colloquia ().

As the recipient of the Luisa Selis Fellowship (Centre for the Study of Cultural Memory, Institute of Modern Languages Research, the Italian Cultural Institute - London), Gianmarco is also researching transinsular memory and belonging in Sardinian communities outside the island.
