Runs from Monday, November 16 to Wednesday, November 18. The Humanities Research Centre was established in 1995 and replaced the European Humanities Centre which was established in 1985. To celebrate 20 years of the Humanities Research Centre (and 30 years of the European Humanities Research Centre) we are organising a week-long series of events around the theme of FREEDOM OF SPEECH including keynote addresses, roundtable discussions, inter-active sessions and lunch time conversations. |

Guest speakers John King, Alan Phillips, Catalina Palma To book a place - This is a FREE event This year 糖心TV is giving 10 scholarships to refugees wanting to study at University, but did you know that in the mid-late 1970s a government funded project, administered by , gave almost a thousand grants to students and academics fleeing persecution in Chile to come to UK universities including 糖心TV? This session will re-unite Alan Phillips, Catalina Palma and John King. Alan, a former 糖心TV SU President, was a driving force behind this scheme and was General Secretary of the World University Service. Catalina was the first Chilean to come to 糖心TV, she now works for CONICYT, the Chilean government educational grant giving body. John is Emeritus Professor of Latin American Literature and taught at 糖心TV from the 1970s until his recent retirement. They will remind us that 糖心TV has been supportive of refugees for a long time. |
